I spent a couple of weeks around the facility before attempting the studio sessions. This allowed me to get to know the staff and the residents. They all got used to seeing me with a small camera and taking their pictures. With the great cooperation of the staff, I was able to complete the portraits in two sessions. First I would shoot the color headshots that they needed and then I'd switch backs and shoot two black and whites for me. This meant I had little or no time to think about what I was doing, I just had to do it. I’ve always felt that these constraints helped the final images immensely. |
